I was essentially blogging my hospital stay in a thread to Tangency, so I'm reblogging the longer posts here, suitably time-shifted, now I'm home.

This one's not about me:

And that's it, really. I got signed out on Sunday after a day without oxy and reasonable blood-oxygen reading. I missed the bus by a few minutes, and while I was working out if there was any good reason to wait an hour for the next one instead of walking for a half-hour home, I heard the throaty rumble of a Merlin engine cruising by, looked up and there was what was almost certainly a Hurricane (I didn't have my distance glasses with me). My memory of that is a Cinemascope frame, dutch-angle, looking up at me looking at the Hurricane, the sunshine glinting off the canopy, against a blue sky. This is inaccurate in almost every way.

Another reblog coming, though it doesn't have much to do with me.

So, last night I had another bout of unbearable pain. I called the NHS helpline, and the nurse thought I had a lung infection, and wanted me down the local A&E, rather than waiting until morning for my GP. Struggling to get dressed took all my energy, so I discarded my original idea of driving, I couldn't concentrate on looking up taxi details, so called for an ambulance.

In the ambulance, they decided my heart rate and blood pressure weren't too bad, but my oxygen was down to 93, where it should be 96 or so. Quick listen with a stethoscope determined that I had a quiet area in my left lung. They put me on oxygen and whizzed me off to A&E.

In A&E they did much the same tests again, but took a much bigger blood sample — another goddamn cannula, I hate those things! — and took an X-ray, which apparently confirmed the lung infection hypothesis. So they put me on an antibiotic IV, followed by a paracetemol drip. Then, after an hour or so, they put me in a side room on the acute treatment ward, which is where I'm blogging this.

So, yeah, that.
