LiveJournal updating its terms and conditions a few days ago — including a not-very-subtle clause pointing out that being owned by a Russian company now they have to follow Russian law (including anti-QUILTBAG legislation and whatever Putin decides is the law on any given day) — has prompted another wave of Anglophone LJ emigration, including some of my favouritest bloggers.

I think I shall probably keep the LJ running for a while, but I may block all comments sooner or later, followed by a cessation of LJ posting, in which case my few followers will have to follow the breadcrumbs to my Dreamwidth blog.

If you're a follower and I haven't already commented on your DW, please leave a comment on the DW edition of this post just to let me know that winding up the LJ is not going to lose you. (Yes, this means you, [personal profile] shd01x). Commenting on the LiveJournal edition will result in me sending Terminators back in time to eliminate your ancestors, which will create Chrono-Synclastic Infundibuli, and nobody wants that.

It seems from the reaction to this analysis that a significant portion of my LJ friends list is hovering on the brink of making the leap to somewhere else. When they finally make the jump or LJ does something to piss me off (or when flickr allows reposting to Dreamwidth (come on, get the lead out, you guys!)), I'll be going that way myself, locking the comments on the crossposts to LJ.

Just a note that DW invites are not required at the moment if you want to open a blog there. This is an import tool that will bring in your LJ posts and comments; that page also has an option for doing the same for communities; this tool will match up your LJ friends with their DW blogs and send them DW friend requests; and the tool for auto-crossposting is on your Accounts Settings, here, probably.

If you're an LJ friend and you make the jump elsewhere than DW, drop me a line to let me know, hm?

I've just added a bunch of LJ friends to my Dreamwidth access list, via this useful tool (I've been told to ignore the certification warnings on that, so I have); so if you just got a post about that, that's what it is. Don't feel under any obligation to return the action, especially if you've no idea who I am.

Meanwhile, I'll just remind everyone with a foot in both worlds that you can set up DW to automatically cross-post to LJ, under the Other Sites tab on Account Settings.

Edit: There's also am LJ-importer for importing your old LJ posts to DW. (If I could only kick Flickr up the arse to allow posting to DW....)

Just a note to myself that Dreamwidth has a LiveJournal importer. Which is nice.

Oh, I seem to have five Dreamwidth invites available. Anyone want one?

...is here. I mostly use it to back-up my posts in LJ*, so I'm not likely to notice any comments there in good time. Better to comment here, where I'm merely slow to answer. At least until the FSB-sponsored botnets kill LJ forever.

*Except for my Flickr posts, since Flickr still doesn't recognise Dreamwidth.

A "What I'm Reading" box on the Post an Entry page. Yeah, I could just put it as the last line of each entry, but it would suit my lazy nature more to have a box for it. I suppose I could repurpose the Music box, but you know, I listen to music as well.

I've managed to bollix up my cross-post info on Dreamwidth, but the wretched thing isn't giving me an option to change the destination. Any ideas, anyone, on how to deal with that?
